The protest site at Mahabandula Park Street was the scene on a 3am raid on March 30 by a group of people identifiable only by the red armbands they wore and their shared goal of destroying the 'Mi Choung Kan' protest camp. The camp - in front of the Yangon High Court - had previously housed since March 24 approximately 200 people opposed to land seizures in Thingangyun township.
A second larger protest site, that houses about 600 people campaigning against similar land seizures involved in the building of the Myanmar Gone Yong housing complex in Tamwe township had also suffered damage overnight. In response representatives from the two camps united with a third; the Taw Win Cherry housing protest group from Mayangone township, to object to this abrupt action with a renewed protest of slogan chanting between 3 and 5pm on the site of the former protest camp.
Approximately 300 people were on show to demonstrate their unhappiness with the night's actions, though there seemed some confusion as who had been behind the demolition. Daw Saw Sandar of the Mi Choung Kan protest camp told Mizzima "They [Yangon City Development Company (YCDC)] called our leader Ko Sein Than and told him we must take down the roofs from our protest camp but we refused."
Daw Saw Sandar went on to suggest that later that night YCDC staff and police watched on as the red armband wearing demolition crew
