A National League for Democracy MP has complained about not being able to raise questions in parliament after her microphone was turned off twice when she was trying to ask the Deputy Minister of Electric Power about power price increases due to take effect on April 1.
Speaking to the media later outside the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw on March 25, Daw Sandar Min (PyithuHluttaw, Zabuthiri Constituency, Mandalay Region), said it was a waste of time trying to ask the ministry about the price increase in parliament.
“If the ministry doesn’t want to give an answer, it will not,” she said.
Daw Sandar Min had earlier tried to question Deputy Minister of Electric Power U Aung Than Oo after he had addressed the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw about the price increase.
After the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw approved the rise in the cost of electricity on March 19, Daw Sandar Min had asked if the only people who stood to benefit from the increase were investors.
