The authorities in Rakhine State are investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed 12 houses and a mosque at Du Chee Yar Tan village in Maungdaw Township on March 9, state government spokesperson U Win Myaing told Mizzima later the same day.
The fire began about 10am, U Win Maying said.
It was the second major outbreak in the village since January 28, when about 16 houses were reported to have burned.
About 48 Muslims were reported killed in Du Chee Yar Tan in January after a police sergeant went missing in the village. The government has described the reports of communal violence in the village in January as baseless.
The March 9 fire came a day after 36 houses were destroyed by fire in Darr Paing village, a community in Sittwe Township inhabited by Rohingya Muslims.
U Win Myaing said the houses in Darr Paing village had burned as a result of “just a common fire”.
