Businesses granted vacant land in Mandalay Region for development projects will have the land reclaimed by the regional government if they do not use it for the projects, the region’s minister of Agriculture and Livestock said on Monday.
U Myint Than made the comments at a meeting with business people have or will apply for vacant land to operate farming, livestock and mining projects.
“We already took vacant, virgin and fallow land back on 31 August when the promised projects were not built on it. We will cancel permission contracts if they do not follow submission proposals,” he said.
He added that the projects implemented had to be the same as the one’s applied for. Owners of agriculture projects, for example, cannot plant different crops than the ones identified in the applications for vacant, virgin or fallow land.
A the end of August the ministry reclaimed land that had been granted for projects that included hillside cultivation, livestock raising, and coffee and mulberry plantations because they had not gone ahead.
Details on the location of the land and its size were not disclosed.
Business people have until 4 November to apply for vacant land in Mandalay’s latest offer.
