After two bombings shook the Yangon area on Monday, a third explosive was discovered under a table in a downtown restaurant around 10:00 a.m. this morning. However, it was successfully disarmed before it could inflict any damage.

The police were immediately contacted and the parcel was identified as an explosive device. It was discharged in a controlled detonation.

The Head of Alone Township’s police station, sub-police Major Win Naing, told reporters, “This [package] is assumed to be a bomb or a time bomb. We came, examined the evidence, and passed the case to the divisional police force who arecontinuing to investigate.”

On 13 October, twin explosions shook the Sawbwargyigone bus stop in Mingaladon Township and the Manpyay bus stop in Thaketa Township in the morning and evening, respectively.

According to a press release issued by the Yangon Region police force, the blast in Thaketa Township took place at about 5:45 p.m. Two local children discovered a package wrapped in a black polythene bag that was concealed underneath a truck. They unwrapped and examined it, not knowing it was an explosive. The bomb detonated when the children accidently manipulated its timing device.

A local resident who witnessed the blast said, “I heard a loud explosion and saw two children fleeing in panic. Their hands were extremely injured.”

The children were hospitalized but are in stable condition.

Yangon Region’s Government Minister in charge of security and border affairs Tin Win said that the bomb was a homemade, improvised explosive device.

“It is difficult to identify the culprits in these bombings, although they are significant incidents tous,” the Minister said.

On 10 October, another explosion in Chan Myae Guest house in TaungooTownship killed two people and injured another.

Those responsible for planting all the aforementioned explosives are still at large.

Police furtherissued reminders to not open any suspicious objects found in railway stations, bus terminals, parking lots, jetties,or other crowded places, but to immediately inform the police of their presence.
