On September 12, the Myitkyina District Court sentenced Dayau Tang Gun to seven years in prison for a bomb explosion that killed ten people in his orphanage in Myitkyina, Kachin State.
Hkawn Ja, Dayau Tang Gun’s daughter told Mizzima that the other five accused, convicted for the same crime have been sentenced to six months in prison.
Myint San, the District Judge sentenced Dayau Tang Gun, aged 52, to seven years in prison for the explosion; the other five accused in the case including Dayau Tang Gun’s wife were sentenced to six months, but were released on September 12 since they had already been detained for more than six months during their trial.

Consequently, Myitkyina Police Station No. 1 arrested and prosecuted him and five other suspects.
Dayau Tang Gun was sentenced to seven years under Section 6 of the Explosive Materials Act. The others were sentenced for withholding information said Nay Win Thaung, the defendant’s lawyer.
She said that she will file an appeal for Dayau Tang Gun.
The bomb blast killed ten people and injured 27. Two of Dayau Tang Gun’s sons and one grandchild were among the dead. Ja Dim, Dayau Tang Gun’s wife injured her ankle in the blast.
Dayau Tang Gun was charged with six crimes including causing death, explosion and causing fire. Dau Lum, Bawk La, Brang Ra, Ja Dim and Tang Gun’s son-in-law Thein Htike Aung had to face five charges including withholding information and causing fire.
Dayau Tang Gun is a referee of the Myanmar Martial Art Federation. He has worked as a martial art coach and a drum corps coach for a Kachin cultural organization.
He has been looking after orphans since 2010.
