The Myanmar Press Council (Interim) has announced that the President's donation will be used for development of media in the country and their expenditure will be accountable to external audit, to ensure transparency.

The announcement was made in a press release after a meeting on September 12, at the MPC office in Yangon.

U Kyaw Min Swe, General Secretary of the MPC said that currently the Press Council has MMK 50 million donated by the President’s office and MMK 10 million from other sources, and that they are open to no-strings attached donations.

 He said, "We will release our financial statement monthly accounting how and where the funds are utilized."

On September 12, 19 out of 26 Press Council members attended a meeting with the President and agreed to accept MMK 50 million donations from his office creating a major controversy with other media persons.
