The International Center for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) will provide USD 500000 to Myanmar for environmental conservation in catchment areas west of Inlay Lake in Nyaungshwe Township, Shan State.

The announcement was made to Mizzima on September 11, by the Inn Literature and Culture Association.

According to Tha Doe, Executive Project Manager of the Inn Literature and Culture Association, the aid is intended for environmental conservation in the five villages around the Lamaungkway-Taungbohgyi village-tract so that the Inlay Lake can survive longer.

He added that the ICIMOD has already invited international NGOs to carry out the project.

He said, “The ICIMOD has invited tenders for environmental conservation project from September 1, and only international NGOs are eligible to carry out the project.”

The ICIMOD has received tenders from two INGOs so far. The INGO that wins the tender will take up soil and forest conservation initiatives, besides improving social lives of residents in the area.

Tha Doe said, “The Inn Literature and Culture Association and the interim-official of the ICIMOD held a meeting on September 10 to explore ways for forest conservation in the Lamaungkway-Taungbohgyi area. As a local resident, I will oversee and assist, whichever group that carries out the project. If the group commits mistakes, I will complain about it to the people through the media.”
