Myanmar, the host country of the 27th Southeast Asia (SEA) Games will double the number of participating athletes from the previous SEA Games in Indonesia.

477 Myanmar athletes participated in 22 games at the 26th SEA Games. However, Myanmar will have 900 to 1000 athletes competing in 33 games category.

“We are yet to receive an official list of the athletes who will compete in the SEA Games. But I am sure all of the athletes will take part in every game enthusiastically, since our country is hosting the games. We would probably be competing with 900 to 1000 athletes”, said a Spokesperson of the SEA Games Competition Committee.

The managerial coach believes that there would be 'approximately 400 athletes'. At the 26th SEA Games in 2011, the host country Indonesia had a total of 1059 participating athletes, which was the highest number of athletes, followed by Thailand with 882 athletes.

During the 26th SEA Games, Myanmar won 16 Gold, 27 Silver and 37 Bronze medals. The Minister of Sports said that they are targeting 100 Gold medals this time.

Currently, 1021 athletes and Coaches are undergoing training in Naypyitaw and Yangon. 700 of them are training at the Gold Camp in Naypyitaw.
