The 4G internet network service is being installed with the assistance of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Kyaw Soe Win told Mizzima that they have invited interested bidders to supply telecom equipments and machinery for the internet service.

“Japan has donated aid and will provide assistance to Myanmar to make the internet service available even after the SEA Games but Myanmar Telecoms do not have commercial license to use the 4G (LTE) internet service,” he added.

“The JICA offered to provide Myanmar 4G internet service, during discussions between the Japanese and Myanmar government on the project. Subsequently, the Myanmar Post and Telecommunications  and JICA, have jointly invited tenders from interested bidder to supply telecom equipments. The successful bidder will be selected officially and they will install the internet network system in Myanmar”, he added further.

Currently 3G internet service is the most advanced internet network system in Myanmar. According to Myanmar Telecoms, construction of radio stations for 4G network has been started and they will be operational on trial basis soon.

Khin Maung Tun, Chief Engineer of Mobile Phone Section at Myanmar Post and Telecommunications  said, “We are now constructing buildings and installing electrical supply to these stations. It will be followed by installation of telecommunication equipments, after which we will have a test run.”

There will be 17 radio stations in Yangon, one in Ngwe Saung beach, 28 in Naypyitaw and four in Mandalay.
