China to train Myanmar MPs on environment assessment

The Global Institute of Energy and Environmental Change based in Beijing has announced that they will provide Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) training for Myanmar MPs.

Siri Chao from the Institute made the announcement at the workshop on 'Renewable Energy for Rural Areas' organized by the Renewable Energy Association and the Chinese institute on September 4 at the Inya Lake hotel.

The EIA training will be given to Environment and Forest Ministry staff and the MPs. They will be sent on study tours to rural areas in China after the training to study implementation of environment protection schemes.

She said, “We are very glad to provide this training in Myanmar.”

On the hand, the Chinese institute plans to train Myanmar MPs while on the other Myanmar people and residents in the Letpadaung copper mine project areas have been protesting against the Chinese Wanbao Company for environmental damage.
