The meeting between U Aung Min, Vice Chairman of the Myanmar Peace-making Work Committee and the United Nationalities Federal Council (UNFC) will take place in Chiang Mai, Thailand on September 8. NLD Chairman Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, NBF and United Nationalities Alliance (UNA) were invited to the meeting. Only the UNA will attend the meeting.

Pado Man Man, General Secretary (2) of the UNFC said that Dr. Tin Mar Aung, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's personal assistant, responded that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi will not be able to attend the meeting as the meeting date is very close to her Europe trip.

“As far as I know, we have received information that that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi will not be able to take part in the meeting, as she has her trip to Europe”, said Pado Man Man.

U Phyo Zayar Thaw, NLD Spokesperson said he could not confirm Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s attendance to the meeting.

Aung San Suu Kyi's tour to Europe will begin on September 10.

Furthermore, The NBF will also be unable to attend the meeting as well due to an internal federation meeting on the same day.

However, Naing Thet Lwin, the Vice Chairman and Naing Soe Myint, the Central Executive Member of the Mon Democracy Party will attend the meeting as representatives of the UNA.

“They will be attending as observers. We have nothing special to discuss”, said Sai Nyunt Lwin, an UNA member to Mizzima.

U Aung Min will lead the government’s Representatives at the meeting as he had done so earlier. Naing Han Thar, General Secretary of the UNFC will lead the representatives of their Council. There will be altogether 10 representatives at the meeting.

“We will deliberate upon how to carry out and develop a future Political Discussion Model which has been discussed already by Technical Teams. The plan is to draft a 'Road Map', said Pado Man Man.

The September meeting will be the second peace talks meeting. The first one was held on February 20 this year.
