The police said that after they received the information last week, the names and photographs of the suspected terrorist bombers have been circulated to security troops, township police and ward administrative officers.

A policeman explained that since August 17, they have also intensified security measures at various places in Myeik district. They are on alert 24 hours a day.

A local officer  said they have heightened security by providing surveillance in Thanintharyi Township throughout the day and night. In the villages, the security-men are working jointly with local elders to increase and ensure adequate security.

He added, “The police have intensified security at Strand road as they received information that the terrorists will use the sea route. The local elders, firemen and the people's militia are all working together to guard the villages.”

Security has been beefed up both within and and outside the town. But there is uncertainty about how long the security will have to be provided.

“Rumors are going round about it”, he said.

According to information released by the police, two of the three suspects are Myanmar citizens who have now acquired Thai citizenship. They are Mahmood aka Thein Aung and Yunus aka Hla Myit.

Mahmood lived in Myanmar till he was 12 years old and speaks Myanmar fluently. Yunus is originally from Rakhine state and can also speak Myanmar well. The third suspect Azhar is from Indonesia. He also speaks fluent Myanmar.
