President Thein Sein has warned local administrators at ward and village levels not to abuse their power, at the meeting on 'Rural Development and Socio-economic Improvement' held on August 19 at the Naypyitaw Myanmar Women’s Affairs Federation hall.

 President's Office

“Village administrators, elected by people are key to the development of rural areas. They are obliged to enforce law, ensure there is no gambling, bootlegging, two or three-digit gambling, and illicit drugs business. Only then, will the rural villages be free from crime, rape, theft, and robbery. Consequently, one can ensure the rule of law that is indispensable for economic, educational, health and social development endeavors. Progress can be possible only through peace, stability, the rule of law and unity of the nation. Authority is granted not to be abused but to lead the development of an institution,” he said.

Moreover, the President said that his government would provide MMK720.67 as agricultural loans for eight townships in Napyitaw Council area. A total of MMK1258.245 million will also be made available to buy tractors, power tiller with trailer, trucks, machinery, generators, water pumps, motorized rickshaw, Toyota Probox taxis, sewing machines, man-powered rickshaw and motorcycles.

The President urged rural people to work hard by saying, “If you do not work hard and rely on others, you will be stuck in a vicious cycle of poverty. So I want to encourage you to work hard. Every job has dignity if it is legal. There should be no shame or fear but dignity of labor.”
