Myanmar’s Ministry of Construction has announced that they have been inviting private businesspeople to invest in constructing the country’s road network on a build-operate-transfer (B.O.T.) system basis.

The Ministry says it has a blueprint to construct some 24,669 miles of highways and interstates. It said 3,514 miles of roadway have already been contracted through private enterprises, leaving 21,155 miles of road requiring funding.

In applying to work a B.O.T system, the investor is required to specify the name of the road, its length and the amount of investment. Each contract should involve a road length no less than 40 continuous miles, the Ministry said.

Divisional and State governments will assess and award contracts in each case, it said.
