Three people were killed and 20 injured when gunfire was exchanged between soldiers of the DKBA and the Burmese Army at 9 am Myanmar standard time today. The clashes occurred in three places until mid-day in Myawaddy town.

Both armies have increased their strength in Myawaddy town. The gunfight occurred under the Myawaddy Bridge, also known as the Thai-Myanmar friendship bridge, the SDPC’s front line office, and Dathtankon, where DKBA soldiers were deployed. Twenty artillery shells were fired, according to a local resident.

“They fired 20 artillery shells. I also heard the sound of gun fire. Three people were killed including a trishaw driver in the exchange of gunfire near the SPDC’s front line office. A nurse said 20 people with injuries arrived in the hospital,” he added.

The DKBA and Burmese Army exchanged gunfire near the Myawaddy-Maesod Bridge on the Myanmar side. One shell from an 81 artillery gun and three shells from a 79 gun landed in Thailand injuring 19 Thai civilians.

At the same time, there was a gunfight in Wor Lay where the DKBA Brigade No.5 is based. The DKBA forces arrested one officer and a trooper of the Burmese Army in Wor Lay and an officer from Kawkareik.

Brigadier Gen. Saw Lar Pwe (Bo Nauk Kham Mwe) told KIC that his troops arrested eight soldiers f the Burmese Army, including an officer of the rank of Captain around 11 am today.

Currently, DKBA forces are deployed in Myawaddy town. Local residents are scared. Thai forces with full military equipment have been deployed around the Thai-Myanmar friendship bridge to Maesod.

According to the latest information, Thai border guard forces will retaliate if shells land in Thailand again.
