Just over a month from the elections in Burma, the Phalon-Sawaw Democratic Party (PSDP) is expediting its poll camping in Karen State. PSDP members are going around explaining the party's policy in the constituencies, a candidate from PSDP said.

Nan Say Awar, a candidate for constituency 1 in Pa-an Township, said “We do not have time and things must be done within a month. Therefore we cannot spend a whole day for one village. Time management is essential and we have to calculate travel time between one village and another. "

PSDP candidates, contesting the polls for national, state and people's parliaments, have started election campaign in Pa-an township since 27 September.

Nan Say Awar said that PSDP is distributing palm-flats reading "To have State Peace, Let's Vote for PSDP". The aim of the palm-flats distribution is to let local people know about the party's policy and candidates in the shortest possible time. We have to do this job within the time allowed by the Election Commission."

"Our details are described in the palm-flat. We want the people to know about us. We want them to know where we come from, what we do, and so on. Frog drum and horn symbols are also described in our palm-flat," he added.

"We don't need to talk much while campaigning. This is Kayin region. They understand the situation if we explain a little bit and hand over our palm-flat. Then we explain a little about how to vote at the polling station because most villagers don't know how to vote," a candidate for People's Parliament in Pa-an Township said.

A brief biography of PSDP candidates, the party's policy, and six principles are described on the palm-flats.

1) Based on the Panglon spirit, we will build our nation on national solidarity and unity.

2) We won't oppose any organization and political parties.

3) We will promote education, knowledge and development for youths.

4) We oppose discrimination towards women, trafficking and violence on women; we will try for a secure life.

5) We will try having clinics, schools and staffs in rural areas.

6) We respect knowledgeable, educated people and businessmen; and oppose corruption and unlawful actions.

After the Election Commission announced August 30 as the last date for submitting the list of parliament candidates, PSDP could not submit the name of the candidate for the constituency in Pha Pun township because of lack of time.

Three candidates from PSDP will contest in constituency 1 in Pa-an township. They are: Nan Say Awar for people's parliament, Saw Aung Kyaw Naing for national parliament and Saw Kyi Lin for state parliament.
