Two people were killed and seven injured in a bomb explosion in the Thai-Burma border town of Myawaddy around 8 pm....

Two people were killed and seven injured in a bomb explosion in the Thai-Burma border town of Myawaddy around 8 pm Myanmar standard time on Friday.

"The bomb exploded at the night market on Bayintnaung Road in front of fruits shops. Two people were killed on the spot. Two motorcycles were damaged," a local woman said.

"The sound of the bomb explosion was very loud. It seemed the bomb was very powerful. Everybody in Myawaddy heard the sound of the explosion," a trader said.

It is learnt that the bomb exploded after a motorcycle taxi driver and another person wearing camouflage uniform arrived there at the same time. A couple called Shanlay was standing in front of a fruit shop near Myanmar Livestock and Fisheries Development Bank on Bayintnaung road, Myawaddy.

Of the two victims, the body of one was mutilated beyond recognition. The torso of another victim, in the camouflage uniform, was hurled at a distance with his limbs in pieces, according to eyewitnesses.

"Seven people were injured. Four were hospitalized and three others were treated and discharged from Myawaddy hospital," a local said.

Nobody has claimed responsibility for the blast. However, Brigadier Gen. Thet Naing Win, commander of southeast military command, Brig. Gen Zaw Min, second commander of southeast military command and Lt. Gen Khin Zaw, commander of costal division, have arrived in Myawaddy  to investigate border gates at midday today.
