The Thailand based Human Rights Education Institute of Burma said they will meet in the near future with the Myanmar Human Right Commission after being invited to do so recently by Railways Minister, Aung Min.
U Aung Myo Min, the HREIB director told Karen News.
“Myanmar still has a bad reputation in regard to human right abuses and needs to improve the situation. It will be good trip if the outside group can meet and share and to try to find some answers to improve the country’s human rights problems.”
U Aung Myo Min explained that during a visit to Thailand on June 27, by the Burma government’s peace delegation, the Railways Minister, Aung Min, invited HREIB to visit Myanmar’s Human Rights Commission.
U Aung Myo Min said.
“There are changes under the new government. People say there is more respect and an improvement of human rights. We are looking to finding possible ways that we can cooperate – we have a lot of expertise that we can share with them.”
U Aung Myo Min say that despite the Ministers invitation it is still too early to open an HREIB office in Burma. U Aung Myo Min said it is time the government made an official announcement inviting exiled organization to return to work in Burma.
HREIB was founded in 2000, with the aim of educating and empowering people from Burma on their human rights and to work on women and children rights.
