9 November 2010: The contentious advance voting system in southern Mindat town, Chin state has helped the military junta-backed Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) get a winning lead in most constituencies.

Mindat_town_View“Thousands had to vote in advance and all the votes went to the USDP. Many ballot boxes were not sealed after votes were cast,” said Salai Ceubikthawng, secretary of the Chin National Party.

The Chin National Party (CNP) has decided to complain to the District Election Commission, he added.

In Mindat township, the Chin National Party (CNP), Chin Progressive Party (CPP), the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), the National Unity Party (NUP) and UMDNP contested on the election on 7 November 2010.

Similarly, the USDP is leading in Tonzang township, northern Chin state.
