The Election Commission (EC) has re-allowed two USDP candidates, who were banned earlier, to contest from Hakha and Thantlang township constituencies in Chin state in the general elections in Burma.

The EC last month barred the two candidates Pu Hram Ceu and Pu Ngun Hram after they were accused of going abroad illegally and not meeting the 10-year residency status criteria made mandatory by the electoral laws.

“They appealed to the EC and were allowed to contest from their respective constituencies,” said a local in Hakha town.

Similarly, U Hung Nai, a candidate of the Chin National Party contesting from Mindat constituency (2) from where Brig. Commander Hung Ngai is contesting, was also barred by the EC for visiting a foreign country illegally.

“He cannot appeal to the EC because of financial problems,” said Salai Ceubikthawng, Secretary of the Chin National Party.

Although the Chin National Party (CNP) will not have a candidate in the Mindat constituency (1), the party has selected Pu Puia as State Parliament candidate from constituency (2) in Mindat.

“We have to concentrate on constituency (2),” said a leader of the Chin National Party in Mindat.
The candidates for state parliament in constituency (2) in Mindat Township are former Brig. Colonel Hung Ngai from USDP, U Gin Hung from the National United Party and U Chuai Shai from the Union of Myanmar National Party.
