16 September 2010: The National Democratic Force (NDF) and the United Democracy Party (UDP) will contest for seats in Parliament from Matupi and Paletwa constituencies in Chin state for the ensuing 2010 general election.

Sources said that the NDP will contest from Matupi Township constituency and the candidates of UDP will contest from the Paletwa Township constituency.

U Shwe Thang, a former candidate of the NLD in the 1990 election, will be contesting for the National Parliament, while U Rochin and U Han That will contest for the State Parliament from Matupi Township for the NDF Party.

“The people are interested in NDF and CPP in Chin state, but they don’t know much about the political parties as poll campaign is yet to start,” said a church leader.

Meanwhile, the contestants are Pu BeiMaw for State Parliament, Pu M. Vanngin for People’s Parliament, U Kyaw Myint and U Myint Maung for National Parliament in Paletwa township for the UDP.

“It is very difficult to predict the outcome of the election as we have not been able to start campaign till date,” said Pu Beimaw, candidate for the State Parliament of the UDP.
