13 May 2010: Chin people, in desperate need of doctors and medicines, have made a fervent plea to the Bureau of Special Operation (BSO) Commander Lieutenant General Ohn Myint, when he inaugurated the extension to the Teddim civil hospital in the last week of April.

“We have a civil hospital, but no doctors or medical assistants and medicines available in our town. So a person representing local people asked the commander to see to our needs. However, there is no response from the commander yet,” said a local who attended the inauguration of the hospital annexe.

Although the junta authorities have extened Teddim hospital to 200-bed capacity from the earlier 100-bed, there is a shortage of doctors and medicines. As such local people are suffering.

“There is a district hospital in Laitui villages, but no stocks of medicines,” said Mr. Thang Lian Piang from Teddim Township.

Shortage of doctors and medinces in many villagers in Chin state force people to go to Kalemyo in Sagaing division and Champhai in Mizoram state India for treatment.

Lieutenant General Ohn Mint met local people in Falam town Hall. He told them that it is necessary for people and the governemnt to be united to build a better state. He distributed Kyat 100 notes to those who attended. All these were done with an eye to the elections in Burma, it is felt.

After he inaugurated Teddim civil hospital , he headed for the Indo-Myanmar border trade base office in Rih town. But unfortunately the Chin state tactical commander Hung Ngai, who was accompanying him, met with an accident outside Teddim town. So, the trip was cancelled.-
