“Mr. Zoramthang hailing from Bungkhua village in Thantlang township, Chin state western Burma was hit on his head by unknown local persons in Sitapuri block New Delhi at 8 pm while he was drawing water outside along with his three children,” said Mr. Ro Mawi an official of the Chin Refugee Committee.

Mr. Ro Mawia told Khonumthung News that Mr. Zoramthang was hospitalized in DDU hospital. He reported the incident of assault to police officers at the hospital not at the police station. Mr. Zoramthang has been shifted to his residence now but no action has been initiated by the police.

The Zoramthang family had fled Burma to New Delhi in 1999 and got UNHCR recognition following oppression and tyranny by the military junta. But now they do not have the support of the UNHCR in New Delhi and Mr. Zoramthang is working in the District Centre and getting Rs. 3000 per month.

There have been attacks on Chin refuges in Jeevan Park, Asalatpur, Viskaspuri and Sitapuri by local people this year. –
