27 January 2010: The Burmese Army authorities have been collecting money from local people of Lungler village in Thantlang Township, central Chin state, western Burma for renovating the Lungler based military camp.

The fund collection started over the last two weeks and every family has to give Kyat 1000 for reconstructing the military camp.

“The authorities are hiring local people for the construction of the camp with our money. But I don’t know the mode of payment,” said a man in the military camp area.

The Lungler based military camp is LIB 269 and it renovates the camp every year. So the local people suffer extortion and forced labour, said sources.

There are about 24 villages in Lungler based military camp area.

The army authorities ordered the people in these 24 villages to bring 1000 pieces of bamboo from each village for fencing the military camp, said a person on condition of anonymity in Dawn village.
