The Burmese military junta recently decided to add some part of Chin state as an integral part of Sagaing division.

Nay Pyi Daw, the new capital of Burma reportedly sent its delegate U Aung Myo Nyunt from the central survey department stationed in Nay Pyi Daw to Kalay town to carry out the demarcation in which it plans to cut some part of Chin state, said a letter of complaint from village heads from the excluded villages of Chin state sent to Nay Pyi Daw on April 3.

U Aung Myo Nyunt led a team comprising staff from the survey department office in Kalay, Falam and Tedim equipped with high technology tools. They surveyed and demarcated the boundary of Chin state and Sagaing division between March 27 to April 4, a copy of the letter received by Khonumthung News said.

U Tin Myint, Secretary of Chin state's Peace and Development Council, U Aung Win, U San Thang Vel, U Htun Hla Aung from the Survey Department in Falam town and U Than Win from Survey Department in Kalay district were said to have issued a directive to undertake demarcation to the staff of the Survey Department office of the towns of Falam, Tedim and Kalay respectively.

In a copy of the newly demarcated map of the areas, in Khonumthung News Group's possession, showed that some areas from Tedim Township in Chin state are being included in Sagaing division.

Immediately, village heads from the proposed excluded seven villages in Chin state wrote a letter of complaint to Nay Pyi Daw. The letter urged the Burmese regime to take action on the group that changed the boundary.

The letter also warned that the fraudulent demarcation will surely ignite tension between Burmans and Chins living near the demarcated areas in the future.

Pu Cin Sian Thang, Chairman of Zomi National Congress said, "I've also heard this but we have to verify exactly how many villages and to what extent the territory is being encroached".

However, the letter of complaint to Nay Pyi Daw said, the territories of Chin state are being pushed into Kalay district. In a draft map of demarcated areas there is Khai Kam, Mai Nuai, Tan Zang, Zo Zang, Zo Nuam Zang, Kim Lai and Dim Zang villages.

"It will be clear whether the regime will approve it or not after the constitutional referendum on May 10," Cin Sian Thang added.

Pu Cin Sian Thang also sent a delegate to follow up the case on the boundary dispute.

If the new demarcation is approved, 8,000 acres of farm, hardwood including teak and Gulu mual called "Mwe Taung" nickel and chromium mining from Chin state will be taken away by Nay Pyi Daw government.

Earlier, excluded territories of Chin state were kept under Kalay forest areas by the former central governments of Burma.

The occupied territories have been a part of Chin state before and after Burma's independence from the British in 1948.

The 1974 constitution also affirmed that the territories to be left out by the Burmese regime are an integral part of Chin state.
