A report said that the USDP isn’t willing to accept a donation of rice from Japan’s Nippon Foundation to northern Chin State’s Tonzang Township that was to be distributed by the Chin National Front.

“Some of Tonzang Township’s USDP leaders said they couldn’t accept the donation from the Nippon Foundation last month, so the state government has cancelled its approval of the distribution to Tonzang Township,” a local told Khonumthung.

Locals said that USDP leaders in Tawnzang Township opposed humanitarian assistance from the Nippon Foundation in the township due to a disagreement they’re having with Pu Haukang, the leader of CNF’s liaison office in Tidim Town.

Japan’s Nippon Foundation distributed rice bags to Tidim, Thantlang, Matupi, and Paletwa Townships in 2013, and the project was extended to Kanpalet and Tonzang Townships this year.

“This issue was discussed at a CNF leaders’ meeting. Since most Chin people are facing food shortages in various parts of Chin state we decided to distribute food to other places,” said Dr. Shwe Khar, general secretary of the CNF.
