As part of the peace process between Burma’s government and the Chin National Front (CNF), a Chin Ceasefire Monitoring Team (CCMT) office was opened in Thantlang Township on June 14th.

A wide range of people attended the opening ceremony in Thantlang Town, including Rev. Tluang Ceu; Rev. Dr. Lal Uk, president of the CCMT; Pu HC. Ral Hnin, the head of CNF Thantlang Liaison Office; Pu ThangYen, the head of the CNF Maupti Liaison Office; Thantlang Township’s police superintendent; government officials; and local individuals.

A CNF spokesperson told Khonumthung that all participants agreed to organize a CCMT in nine townships in order to monitor the ceasefire between the government and the CNF. The teams will include people from the local community such as parents, students, youths, women, and religious leaders. Each team will have nine members, so a total of 45 people will be involved.

The CCMT for Thantlang Township is led by Pu Lawm Bik, and other members of the team include Dr. Hmuh Thang; Pu Siang Zel; Pu Thla Hmung; and Pu Van Bawi Thang.

Although a “Township Affairs Chin Ceasefire Monitoring Team” has been formed in Matupi, Tidim, and Hakha Townships, official CCMT offices haven’t opened yet in these townships.
