Pu Zing Cung, the secretary general of the Chin National Front (CNF), said that Chin unity first happened during the Fallam Assembly in 1948, while recently speaking at a public consultation meeting in Falam Town, Chin state, Burma.

“National day was (first) adopted in February 1948 with a call for unity of all Chin people on the principles of democracy. We have to serve with the revolutionary spirit of the Falam conference. The Chin people should unite,” said the CNF leader, on the public meeting on Dec.17.

In early December, the CNF and a government peace team agreed to 27 points from a 33-point plan presented by the armed group during talks during the second round of union level peace talks.

Dr. Za Hlei Thang, chairman of CNF’s Supreme Council, said during the public meeting that the CNF are addressing national issues, so all Chins encouraged to join the CNF.

The Chin ethnic armed group was warmly welcomed by a group of about 10,000, made up of elders, women’s groups, church leaders, government officials and youth, many wearing their traditional dress.

The audience shouted slogans like: ‘democracy is our cause, unity is our cause and federal establishment is our cause’.
