A twenty-seven point agreement was reached between the Chin National Front (CNF) and the central government during the second phase of union level peace talks. The meeting took place at the Myanmar Peace Center in Rangoon from Dec. 7-9. The CNF signed a cease fire with the Myanmar army last year.

The agreement is as follows:

Under Chin National Affairs agreement – Chin National Day to be recognized as holiday on Feb. 20. Chin State Day will be held on Jan.3.

Under National Reconciliation, Human Rights and Environment agreement – The establishment of  a Chin human rights committee. Citizens will be informed and consulted regarding all natural resources extraction in the state.

Under Military Affairs agreement– The government will need to inform the CNF one month before the Burma army settles in 7 key locations across Chin state.

Under Development agreement – The development of communication and news print media. Community radio broadcasting will be established. Water, electricity, education and health to be provided to all citizens living in the state. At least one airport will be constructed in Chin state to promote tourism.

Under Social and Cultural affairs agreement – Chin language will be introduced in primary schools and eventually  extended to high school. Licenses to be granted for newspapers, journals, magazines, newsletter, radio, internet and television programs or other public associations or organizations.
