“The negotiation will help solve the political imbroglio in the country and we welcome this meeting,” said Mr. Zo Zam, the Chairman of Chin National Party.

Mr. Pual Lian Lun, Hlawttaw representative from the Chin Progressive Party has also welcomed the meeting between NLD and the new government which is dominated by the military.

“I welcome the meeting and it should throw up new ides between the government and the opposition parties, ” said Mr. Paul Lian Lun.

The Chin Progressive Party won 12 seats in the 2010 Burmese general elections from Chin state and Sagaing division and nine seats were won by the Chin National Party.

The meeting was held in a state guesthouse from 1 pm to 2:10 pm yesterday between Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, the general secretary of NLD and Mr. Aung Kyi,. Details of the meeting were not disclosed.

“We were satisfied with the meeting and agreed to meet again,” said Mr. Ohn Kyaing, NLD spokesperson.

This is the first meeting between a minister of the new military government of Burma and Suu Kyi. The previous government led by General Than Shwe conducted nine meetings with Suu Kyi.

Mr. Thawng Kho Thang from the United Nationalities League for Democracy – UNLD elected from Tamu township of Sagaing division in the 1990 Burmese general election predicted that the meeting will not come up with any solution for the people of Burma.

He added that Thein Sein’s government is just trying to appease the international community and is looking at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, (ASEAN) Chairman’s seat in 2014.

“If the government is intent on solving the problems plaguing the country, the President or Vice President should have participated in the meeting,” said Mr Thawng Kho Thang.

But Mr. Zo Zam, the Chairman of CNP said that the meetings should be conducted step by step between Suu Kyi and the government.“I do not think the process will fully succeed at the moment, it should be step by step in a constructive manner,” said Mr. Zo Zam. – Khonumthung News
