14 April 2011: A Chin Bible student was allegedly murdered by his class mate in Tiriwala town, Kerala state of India at around 5 am on 13 April 2011.

Joseph (26), son of Pu Lawng Ka from Boi Ring village of Matupi township, Chin state, Burma was killed by Thomas from Paletwa township of Chin state, said a Chin student from Kerala.

“Thomas brought his friend to work at a hotel in the town during their free time and spent the night at the work place. Joseph’s body was found early in the morning in the hotel premises,” said the Bible student.

It learnt that Joseph was studying at the National Bible College for a M. Div degree with some other Chin students in Kerala.

“Thomas was arrested by the local police for questioning. The police and local residents found some blood stained stones near the body, which had injuries to the head,” said a Chin student.

The body was sent to the local hospital for post modem by local authorities yesterday.

A number of Chins youths are studying in various India institutions and some of them do odd jobs to make some money to pay for their school fees and basic necessities.

Most Chin youths study in neighboring countries like India, Thailand and Malaysia to acquire knowledge given the poor education system in Burma under the military junta.
