Two young men of Sin Oo wa village were detained by the Sinletwa based military camp in-charge Aung Win Khai and his troops to replace two soldiers, one of whom was killed and another injured in a clash with the Chin National Army (CNA) on the second week of this month in Paletwa township Chin state.

“When we reported the matter to the Block Peace and Development Council, they told us that it was because we failed in our responsibility during the clash. That is supposedly the reason for arresting the youths. It is disgusting!” said a local.

It is learnt that Maung Ba Than (17) son of U Piku and Maung Aung Kyaw Hla (18) son of U Kunruai are being kept at the Sinletwa military camp.

“Burmese Army personal Aung Win Khai and his soldiers had come to our village and took away Maung Ba Than and Maung Aung Kyaw Hla on the pretext of meeting them for a while. They didn’t allow them to meet their parents,” said a local of Sin Oo wa village.

The soldier died on 17 February during a gun fight between the army and CNA in Sin Oo Wa village.

“The Military Service Law passed recently allows the army to recruit youths,” said a local.

In fact, soldiers have already undertaken a census and are checking family registration lists in Chin state to enlist youths in keeping with the Military Service Law.
