A drunken brawl led to the death of a student in Matupi, second capital of Chin state, Burma on Sunday at around 8 p.m. (Burma standard time).

The students, who were to appear for their Matriculation examinations, got into an argument in an inebriated state resulting in a student getting killed.

Thautlei, the student sustained serious injuries in his head and died in Matupi hospital on Monday morning, said a local from Matupi.

"The head wound led to hemorrhage and the doctors were unable to save him," said a staff in Matupi hospital.

The students involved in the brawl were identified as Thautlei, Tlateitha and Hrauro, They were to appear for the examinations together this year from Satu Village of Matupi Township.

Tlateitha and Hraumo were also are injured and were admitted to the hospital under police supervision.

"We have been trying to stop sale of alcohol by adopting several measures in the town. It is unfortunate that this incident occurred," said a Christian Church leader in Matupi.

Local youth groups and different Christian Churches have been trying to stop alcohol sale in the region from many years. The license for alcohol retailing is bought from the local authorities.

It is learnt that the authorities have been forcing local village and block authorities to sell alcohol in a limited manner in terms of selling time and prices in the region. - Khonumthung News
