Members of the Union Solidarity Development Party (USDP) were elected to the posts of Chief, Assistant Chief and Chairman of the Chin State assembly, in western Burma yesterday.

Burma-ParlimentA retired Tactical commander and a Chin state Chairman Major General Hung Ngai was elected as Chairman of the Chin state assembly, Mr. Hau Khen Kham was elected Chief and Mr. Ohn Lun was elected as Assistant Chief respectively. The elections were held in the Assembly hall of Hakha, the capital of Chin state.

Mr. Hung Ngai (USDP), from Mindat township constituency No (2) and Mr. No Sum (Chin Progressive Party) from Falam township constituency No (2) contested. Mr. Hung Ngai garnered 21 votes for the post of Assembly Chairman. Mr. No Sum received only three votes.

Mr. Lal Maung Cung from the Chin National Party (CNP) also contested. Mr. Hau Khen Kham a USDP representative from Ton Zang Township received 14 out of 24 votes as Chief of Chin state assembly.

At the same time, Mr. Zo Zam, CNP from Tedim township also got 14 out of 24 votes by Mr. Ohn Lwin from USDP representative of Matupi Township was elected as assistant Chief of Chin state.

It is learnt that USDP representatives have been elected in the assemblies of the respective states and divisions in the whole Burma.

The State Peace and Development Council, the official name of the military junta, held assembly sessions in almost half a decade yesterday morning and military and USDP representatives won all the position of States and Divisions in the country. - Khonumthung News
