One fisherman was killed and another injured  after a section of Burmese border security force (Nasaka) personnel shot at fishermen on the shore of the Naf River on September 6 night, said a local who attended the funeral in Maungdaw.

The Nasaka personnel are from Kur Kali (Lakeya) outpost of Nasaka area number 5. Two fishermen were hit in the firing. One died on the spot after being shot in the head and another was hit on the leg. The third lay down when he heard gunfire, avoiding injury, said a local from Lekya village.

The Nasaka personnel took two fishermen to Maungdaw where they handed over the dead fisherman to Enous, the chairman of ward number two for burial on September 7, said the funeral-attendee.

The dead was buried in the graveyard at noon.

The injured fisherman, Nur Alam, was admitted to Maungdaw general hospital but nobody was allowed to see him. The Nasaka is guarding him in hospital.

The third fisherman was arrested and kept in the outpost of Kurkali under Nasaka area number 5.

The fishermen are Rohingya who were trying to catch fish in Naf River to earn their livelihood. It was dark when the Nasaka shot them, said a school teacher from Maungdaw.

“No Rohingya has the right to ask the Nasaka personnel why they shot innocent persons,” the teacher said.

The Nasaka released information through their collaborators that they had killed a robber and injured another, but they have not released the arrested, said a local trader from Maungdaw.
