Three Yaba peddlers were arrested with 1000 Yaba tablets by the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) at the Maricha check-post while being smuggled to Cox’s Bazaar from Teknaf on July 31, sources said.

Acting on a tip off, The BDR arrested them with the Yaba tablets from a special bus on July 31, at 5 pm.

The arrested were identified as Sayed Alam (25), Helal Uddin (26) and Abdullah (26), from Shaprang union in Teknaf upazila.

A BDR officer Hajee Nurul Islam from the Maricha check-post said that the three peddlers were caught by BDR personnel on the basis of secret information.

Earlier, on July 23, over 1000 Yaba tablets were seized from another special bus by BDR at the same place, the officer added.

They were handed over to Ramu police station and a case filed against them.

Recently, smuggling of Yaba tablets to Bangladesh has increased. The Yaba tablets are brought in from Burma through various transit points of Teknaf, said a local trader on condition of anonymity.
