Maungdaw, Arakan State: Regional Development Association (RDA) members distributed rice and money among flood victims recently, said a local elder.

On June 28, 40 bags (one bag is 50 kg) of rice were distributed among the flood affected people in Maung Nama village of Maungdaw Township.  Besides, two exercise books per student were also distributed in the affiliated middle school in Maungdaw Township.

The RDA members had also distributed rice and money among the flood affected people in Buthidaung Township.

Therefore, the Rohingya community of the two townships is praising the RDA Chairman U Aung Zaw Win because of his initiative for the needy Rohingya people.

The RDA office was set up in Maungdaw Town last May with the support of the Union Solidarity and Development Association (USDA or USDP (USD Party) under the supervision of State Peace and Development Council (SPDC).  It was formed on the initiative of U Zaw Win. So the Rohingya people of north Arakan fully support his active leadership, according to sources.

However, recently, his appointment or selection of a Parliamentary representative for Buthidaung Township constituency for the forthcoming national election from Maungdaw Township has disappointed the people of Buthidaung Township, said another local leader from Buthidaung Township, who did not want to be named.

As a result, the residents of Buthidaung Township feel that they are being ignored   by U Zaw Win because there are able leaders who could be appointed as parliamentary representative for the constituency of Buthidaung Township.

Why did he choose or appoint the parliamentary representative from Maugdaw for the constituency of Buthidaung Township? asked a local elder. It is unacceptable for the people of Buthidaung Township.

Consequently, leaders of Buthidaung Township want to tell RDA Chiarman U Aun Zaw Win through Kaladan Press Network that he should change his mind and withdraw the nomination of U Htay Win and revert the situation in time, otherwise, there will be friction among RDA members and the image of U Zaw Win will be destroyed, said a local businessman from Buthidaung.
