Maungdaw Arakan State- The Township Peace and Development Council (TPDC) of Maungdaw Township has permitted villagers of the Township to trade in cattle in the township after the recent floods, said a cattle trader.

Three years ago, the TPDC of Maungdaw Township ordered members not to collect tax from cattle trade in Maungdaw Township. But, they are allowed to collect tax from the cattle for slaughter.

But, recently, after the floods, the TPDC members declared taking tax from cattle trade in Maungdaw Township.

Salamat Khan, son of Mohamed Dullah, from Ukil Para (village) of Maungdaw town is the only agent to collect tax from cattle trading in Maungdaw Township.

Earlier, he was agent only for the town, but, now, he has appointed agents in every village in Maungdaw Township to collect tax from cattle trade.

The agents collect5 percent from cattle sellers or buyers, which is high for cattle sellers or buyers locally, said a village elder seeking anonymity.
