Teknaf, Bangladesh: Two Bangladeshi fishermen were abducted by Burma’s border security force (Nasaka) on June 12, while fishing in the Naff River, sources said.

The kidnapped were identified as Forid Ahamed (30), son of Yousuf Ali and Nurul Kabir (29), son of Nazir Ahamed under Nilla union of Teknaf, Cox’s Bazaar district.

A fisherman said they went to Naff River to catch fish that evening in a small row boat.

A number of Nasaka personnel illegally crossed Bangladesh territorial waters in a speed boat and abducted two fishermen at gun point, he added.

The Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) Battalion No. 42 was informed by the locals and then their families lodged a case with the Teknaf police station.

Lt.  Col Mozammel Hossen, Commanding Officer of 42 Rifles Battalion, Teknaf said that BDR has already sent a protest letter to the Nasaka for the early release of the abducted Bangladeshi fishermen. Meanwhile, more than a hundred Bangladeshi fishermen and wood-cutters are in Burmese jails over the last few years, said a close aide of the BDR.

Teknaf locals said that quite often Nasaka personnel abduct Bangladeshi fishermen from the Naff River while they catch fish in Bangladesh territorial waters.
