Dhaka,Bangladesh: The three-day Biswas Ijtema (congregation) concluded successfully yesterday, with the participation  of over 200,000 perople from more than 70ountries including Middle East, Central Asia, Asia and Africa, said a participant.

Over a million Muslims raised their hands seeking forgiveness and blessings for mankind and the Muslim Ummah as the three-day Biswa Ijtema concluded with final supplication.

Representatives from Pakiatan, India, UAE, KSA, Qatar, Oman, Jordan, Morocco, Bahrain, Algeria, Palestine, Yemen, Iraq, Lebanon, delivered sermons, said another participant.  

Maulana Jabayerul Hasan of India was of Tablig-e- Jamatt. India led the 22- minute Munajat at the Ijtema, the biggest annual Islamic event a Miaji Azmat. India opened  the Biswas Ijtema on January 22, said Jamil from Kaladan Press Network.

Maulana Jobayerul Hasan of Tablig-e-Jamaat, India led the 22-minute Munajat at the Ijtema, the biggest annual Islamic event after the hajj, on the bank of Turag in Tongi. The Munajat started around 12:18 p.m. and ended at 12:40 p.m. Maulana Jobayerul, in Urdu and Arabic, called upon the Muslims to follow Islam in everyday life and dedicate them to establish Islamic values in the society.

It has been organizing this since 1976. It mainly concentrates on prayers and meditation seeking blessing from Allah (SWT), Eternal God.

A total of 108 couples got married in the presence of their guardians and relatives. Over 20,000 foreign devotees were taking part in the congregation, according to organizers.   

It was held under tight security with around 18,000 security personnel from different agencies and several hundred plainclothes police were deployed in the area.  They rounded up 37 pickpockets.

On January 22, two devotees, and five devotees on January 23 died of old age   and 83 devotees were admitted to the Tongi hospital due to illnes, said one of the organizing committee members.  Meanwhile, at least seven devotees were killed and 23 others injured in two separate accidents in Tongi and at Uttara in the capital. Four devotees including three women were killed and eight others injured last night as a bus carrying them overturned near Uttara embankment in the capital. Meanwhile, three women died when a motorboat carrying pilgrims from Biswa Ijtema capsized in Turag River at Tongi in the afternoon.

President Zilur Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, leader of the opposition Khaleda Zia, ministers and political leaders joined the last Munajat (concluding prayers).
