Goondon, Bangladesh: Burma’s border security force (Nasaka) has resumed construction of border barbed wire fencing after a flag meeting between the border guards of the two countries on October 21, said a local villager from Goondon.

The Nasaka has been shoring up the erected pillars with soil to make it strong with labourers, from Goondon to border pillar No. 32. They are also making a walkway along the fence. Daily, hundreds of labourers have been dumping soil at the bottom of the pillars, the villager added.

The Nasaka is also preparing to erect fencing on the zero line opposite Rezu and Amtoli areas of Bangladesh by clearing bushes along the border. This news reached BDR, but they said that they did not get such information, said another local villager from Rezu.

A local Farid Ahmed from Rezu said that Nasaka has been patrolling the border area including deep forests and it has been reinforced the camps where barbed wire fence is being erected.

The Nasaka will make an 80-km long fence opposite Rezu and Amtoli to Asat Toli, Sacc Dalar, Pultali and Lemusari of Bangladesh. The BDR has been patrolling the border areas and is on red alert.

Aslam Habib, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Naikhongchari upazila under Bandarban district said that the Nasaka is erecting fences along the Bangladesh-Burma border. But, at present, the border situation is normal.
