Teknaf, Bangladesh: Burma's border security force, or Nasaka, released eight Bangladeshi fishermen on September 24 without any flag meeting between the border security forces of the two countries.

The fishermen were abducted by Nasaka on September 11, while they were fishing in the Bay of Bengal. But the fishermen claimed that they were fishing in Bangladesh territorial waters.

Bangladesh border security force (BDR) in Shapuri Dip confirmed the release of the fishermen.

Sources on the Burma side said the fishermen were fishing in Burmese territorial waters, so the Nasaka arrested them.

The Nasaka frequently abducts Bangladeshi fishermen from Bangladesh territorial waters when fishing, according to the Teknaf fishing association in Bangladesh.

The freed fishermen are: Noor Mohamed, Nurul Amin, Monir Ahmed, Rashid, Nur Hashim, Mostak Ahmed, Noor Alam and Abdul Shukur, hailing from Teknaf and Shapuri Dip.

"When any Bangladeshi prisoner is released from Burma, they (Nasaka) always call a flag meeting, but this time they did not. Why?" asked Hashim, a fishing boat owner in Shapuri Dip.
