The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) secretary general urged the EU to take immediate steps to help Muslim Rohingyas in Myanmar during a recent meeting with Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso.
Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ishanoglu brought up the issue on the June 25 meeting while meeting to discuss the latest developments in Syria, according to the OIC’s own journal.
On the same day, Ishanoglu also met with Kristalina Georgieva, EU Commissioner for International Cooperation Human Rights Aid and Crisis Responses to discuss Burma. During this time Ihsanoglu stressed the need to pressure the government to allow international humanitarian access to the Rohingya population in Arakan state.
Since the June violence of last year the nominally civilian government has been raping, displacing and killing Rohingyas. President Thein Sein is behind the Rohingya genocide plan, said Rohingya youth leader Kyaw Soe Aung.
For the last 6 months Rohingya marriages have been forbidden by Nasaka (Burma’s border guard). It’s a deliberate action against the Rohingya community to stop the birth rate of Rohingya community and part of the genocidal plan, said one local youth from Arakan state.
