New BGB sector, two battalions set up at Bangladesh-Burma border

A new sector and two battalions of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) are operating on the Bangladesh-Burma border, near Cox’s Bazar and Khagrachari.  According to a United News of Bangladesh (UNB) article, they will ensure better border management.

The BGB director general, Major General Aziz Ahmed, inaugurated BGB Battalion No.50 in Ramu of Cox’s Bazar by hoisting their flag on May 19, according to official sources.  

The day before the newly formed BGB Goimara Sector at Ramgarh and BGB Battalion No. 51 at Panchari in Khagrachari Hill district were inaugurated.

The government plans to set up two sector and three battalion BGB headquarters in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. Another BGB sector has already been opened in Bandarban hill district.

On Jan. 20, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the new four regional BGB headquarters at a BGB function.  

The BGB regional headquarters were set up in Rangpur, Jessore, Sarail of Brahmanbaria and Chittagong.
