Authorities settle Natala villagers on Rohingyas’ land

Southern Maungdaw Township authorities is resettling Rakhine on land previously occupied by displaced Rohingyas, said a schoolteacher on condition of anonymity. The school teacher also told Kaladanpress that they are even building them new homes.

“The authorities have built 10 houses for the Natala (Rakhine) villagers in Honsara village after they relocated the Rohingya families from their lands.” The families that were displaced from Honsara village after their homes were torched by Rakhine mobs during the June sectarian violence have asked to return to their land and rebuild their homes, but they have been denied.

One person told the Kaladanpress that with the upcoming raining season will make their situation even more desperate.

 “Now we are homeless, and don’t no know where to stay in the rainy season. We are now living in miserable conditions in (another) village.”

Rohingyas displaced by state authorities will have a difficult time coping with the upcoming rainy season, said one village administer.

Some of thedisplaced families have been identified as: Nurul Haque, (45), Anzul, (40), Md. Salim, (37), Md. Zuahar, (42), Lal Meah, (46), Anu Meah, (60), Ziabul Hoque, (33), Mohamed, (65) and Rahim Ullah (50).
