Nasaka (Burma’s border security force) still haven’t released 3 Bangladeshi policemen and one civilian arrested several weeks ago, according to border sources.
Constables; Mohammad Imran Hossain from Ukhiya television relay substation, Irfan Sarkar and Mojibur Rahman both from Kutupalong refugee camp and civilian Saiful Islam were placed under arrest after accidently crossing the border into Burma on March 13.
According to unidentified Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) sources the 3 men, which are being held in the Nasaka Commander Office in area 3 in Maungdaw Township, will be released soon. Apparently Nasaka personnel are still interrogating the men.
The BGB expected the arrestees to be released during a flag meeting with Nasaka on March 16 in Taungbro. But Nasaka made several mistakes on the prisoner release list that has resulted in the whole process being delayed.
Following the flag meeting the BGB sent letters on March 19 and 22 demanding for the men to be turned over to Bangladeshi authorities. Several other letters were also sent prior to these dates.
According to Mohammad Khalequzzaman, commander of BGB Battalion 17, the men will be released once the official list of their names is processed by the appropriate Nasaka officers.
“My counterpart has committed for the early release of the abducted Bangladeshis after the verification of this paperwork.”
