A police corporal has been arrested by Nasaka (Burma border security force) after drugs were found in the vehicle he was travelling in.

“Maung Maung Than, a police corporal, rented a Rohingya jeep to transfer his household items to Akyab. When personnel searched his jeep (on the Maungdaw to Alay Than Kyaw  highway)  they found a large amount of Yabba pills hidden in his belongings,” according to a Nasaka officer.

Maung Maung Than later confessed during an interrogation at Nasaka area-7 station that he and 2 other Rakhines were involved in drug trafficking. The 2 other suspects have also been apprehended.

The drugs that were shipped from Buthidaung to Maungdaw were intended to be delivered to Akyab by Maung Maung Than for sale in Bangladesh by another agent.

According to the Maungdaw transport association, the jeep that had the license registration 6B/3610 was owned by a man named Dil Mohamed. The police have also arrested the driver Zubir and confiscated the vehicle.
