Military Affairs Security officers (MAS), also known as Sarapa, arrested three Muslim merchants at the Maungdaw checkpoint. At the time of press, it’s unknown why the 3 men were arrested.

The army have been increasing the number of checkpoints from Shikdar Para (Myoma Kanyoungdan) to Maungdaw and along the Maungdaw Aley Than Kyaw road. There has also been reports circulating that army is harassing Rohingas in transit – extorting money and goods.

An elder from Maungdaw Town told the Kaladanpress on condition of anonymity that state authorities like Nasaka, police, army and MAS have been targeting Muslims since the June sectarian violence.

Several days ago, Nasaka personnel from Lake Ya Nasaka outpost in Maungdaw Township arrested Maulana Hashim, 50, Sayed Alam and two other villagers over allegations of being involved in human trafficking, according to a close friend of Maulana Hashim. The friend didn’t want their name used for fears of reprisal by state authorities.
