Sickness spreading in refugee camps in Bangladesh
Outbreaks of illnesses are spreading amongst refugees - mostly children - living in official and unofficial camps in Bangladesh. The most common sicknesses are pneumonia, fever, cough, stomach’s pain and diarrhea, according to a doctor from Teknaf.
Kutupalong makeshift camp - one of the camps affected - is located on an open field. The refugees’ homes, made of plastic, bushes and branches, provide little protection from the cold winds that are prevalent this time of the year.
Both Kutupalong and Leda (Tal) have had high incidents of illnesses since the end of December. The people affected are receiving basic treatment from Medicins Sans Frontieres (MSF), Muslim Aids and others aid groups.
